Art Basel 2009

I was pleasantly surprised by my first trip to Basel. At the fair the quality of works on view was excellent both in the modern and contemporary sections. And…even better news…sales were happening. Not just tiny things as in previous fairs but large, important and expensive works which bodes well for the art market. I [...]

Chelsea Visits and Finds/Affordable Art Fair

While wandering around on a Saturday in Chelsea, I came across some amazing shows and some great buys.
Shows to see are Nam June Paik at James Cohan Gallery.
Jacqueline Humphries at Greene Naftali.
William Powhida at Schroeder Romero.
Hernan Bas at Lehmann Maupin (Chrystie Street location).
Ruben Ochoa at Peter Blum (now closed).
I also stumbled upon a benefit art [...]

Art Chicago

Though the overall fair was a bit of a disappointment as far as quality was concerned, I did manage to find some good works. I am hoping that now that they have found the right number of galleries to show they work on bringing the quality back to its original glory of the days of [...]

MACO and Mexico City’s Contemporary Art Scene

AIPAD (Association of International Photography Art Dealers) Fair

I was pleasantly surprised by this manageable fair. Not only were there some good works on view, but dealers were also in good spirits. There were even sales at some booths on items below a certain price point. Works that caught my eye were:

1) Kart by Mary Mattingly who has a show opening up at [...]

The Armory Show, Scope, Pulse and Volta

Well, somehow I managed to see all four of these fairs in one day while also working at my gallery’s booth at the Armory Modern.  My overall impressions were that the positive attitude at the Armory was a nice surprise. It was crowded and there was some good art to be seen. The new addition [...]

ADAA: The Art Show 2009

While I did not find a lot at the fair, I did see a few works that stood out. There was a Louise Bourgeois lithograph for $4500 entitled, Rose, from 2002, and an amazing maquette by Anne Truitt (a Minimialist artist who is not nearly as well-known as her male peers) for a price that [...]
